Centre for Neighbourhood Mediation is looking for a Mediator in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area

We are looking for a part-time mediator in the Helsinki Metropolitan Area for a fixed-term contract until the end of 2025.

The Centre for Neighbourly Mediation, a project of the Finnish Mediation Forum, was established in 2015. The Centre's mission is to promote good relations between people, prevent tensions from escalating into confrontation and conflicts, and mediate conflicts related to housing and neighbourhood. The Centre operates on the principles of impartiality and neutrality. The aim of the Centre for Neighbourhood Mediation is to deal with approximately 250 housing-related conflicts a year nationwide. The assignments are related to conflicts between two residents or in the wider community. In addition, mediation skills are disseminated and inculcated to other actors through consultation, training and mentoring. The Centre is funded by the Social and Health Organisations Assistance Centre (STEA).

The mediator is independently responsible for mediating assignments, local network and stakeholder cooperation and reporting on activities. The job also includes training and conflict prevention work to promote peace in housing. The mediator is supported by the solid expertise and support of the Finnish Mediation Forum organisation, the Head of the Centre for Neighbourhood Mediation and other mediators. The main area of operation is the Helsinki Metropolitan Area, but willingness to travel is desirable.

We expect the candidate to have knowledge of the theory and practice of restorative mediation and the ability to apply the principles of mediation in a flexible and creative way. The job requires independent, fast and demanding problem-solving skills, the ability to manage demanding interaction situations and anticipation. You will be able to promote mediation as a solution to housing and community problems and to train and inspire actors to adopt a mediation approach. Work experience in hosting, marketing or networking would be an advantage.

Applicants must have at least a bachelor's degree in a relevant field, specialised mediation skills and at least 2 years of relevant work experience. We are looking for self-direction, teamwork skills, the ability to network and make connections, and the willingness to work evenings.

We offer flexible working hours, employment benefits, telecommuting, a competent team and the opportunity to develop as a mediation professional in challenging work. The work is part-time 3-4 days/week and the starting salary is based on the agreed working hours 1890-2520 EUR/month.

This is a one-year temporary contract until 31.12.2025. It may be possible to continue working after this period. Work will start as soon as possible, but no later than April 2025.

The interviews will take place on 10-13 March 2025 in Helsinki. Applications with curriculum vitae should be sent by 2.3.2025 to the following address kethlin.lorincz@sovittelu.com.

For more information on the post, please contact Kethlin Lörincz, tel. 050 322 0024.
