We are looking for two mediators for a fixed-term one-year contract (unless there are drastic budget cuts; funding for the extension will be confirmed in December 2026). Working hours will be 30%–100%, depending on the preferences and circumstances of the most suitable candidates.
The Centre for Residential Peace (formerly the Centre for Neighbourly Mediation), operating under the Finnish Mediation Forum Association, was established in 2015. The Centre adheres to the principles of impartiality and neutrality in its operations. The Centre's mission is to promote residential peace by preventing and mediating conflicts between two residents or residential communities. In addition, mediation skills are disseminated and embedded among other stakeholders through consultation, training, and guidance. The Centre's operations are funded by the Funding Centre for Social Welfare and Health Organisations (STEA).
The mediator is independently responsible for the marketing of activities, mediating assignments, local network and stakeholder cooperation, and reporting on activities. In addition, job duties may include training and other work that promotes peaceful living. The work takes place primarily in the Helsinki metropolitan area, but partly remotely and partly elsewhere in Finland, so readiness to travel is expected. The mediator has the solid expertise and support of the Finnish Mediation Forum organisation and the Head of the Centre for Peaceful Living, as well as other mediators, and weekly team meetings and debriefing sessions.
We expect the applicant to have knowledge of the theory and practice of restorative justice and mediation, as well as the ability to apply these principles flexibly and creatively. The job requires independent, rapid, and demanding problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to manage and anticipate challenging interaction situations. We hope the applicant has the ability to both market mediation as a solution to housing and community problems, and to train and inspire stakeholders to adopt a conciliatory approach.
The applicant must have at least a lower, relevant university degree and at least 2 years of relevant work experience. We are looking for self-direction, teamwork skills, the ability to network and build connections, and readiness to work evenings. We encourage applicants of all ages and backgrounds, and with diverse language skills, to apply!
We offer flexible working hours, employee benefits, the possibility of remote work, a skilled team, and the opportunity to develop into a professional mediator through challenging work tasks. The full-time salary for the job is €3310 and is determined by a pro-rata calculation.
This is a fixed-term contract for one year due to a substitute appointment, lasting until 1 July 2027, with the reservation that funding continues for 2027. Continued employment after the fixed term may be possible. The work will begin in August (by September at the latest) 2026.
Applications, with CVs, must be submitted by 3.8.2026 to miriam.attias@sovittelu.com. Please state in your application what percentage of working hours you are seeking. Interviews will be held in Helsinki during August.
Further information about the task is available from manager Miriam Attias, 040 014 8790.
